Recent pet deaths a Chinese import

Filed under: Dogs — Dagny Gromer @ 11:07 am

Looks like the pets that were injured or killed by the tainted pet food were victims of a Chinese import. Do you think our idiot leaders in DC will ever get a clue? CLOSE THE BORDERS NOW!!

Key points from the article:

- U.S. officials said on Friday that melamine, a chemical used in fertilizers in Asia and forbidden in pet food, has been detected in the wheat gluten used by Canada-based Menu Foods.

- FDA officials said the wheat gluten was imported from China but was not yet known to be used in human food. All wheat gluten coming from there will now be reviewed, they said.

New Tidy XHTML Validator

Filed under: ActionShootingScores.com, Ruby On Rails, Site News — Dagny Gromer @ 9:42 am

Using an updated, and much improved, Tidy plug in for Firefox, I revised the xhtml in my ActionShootingScores Ruby on Rails application. Now the xhtml passes the Tidy validator (which it did before) and the new dtd validator which works the same way as the wc3 validator.

I’ll be moving the revised code to the production site this weekend.  [Friday 3/30] Done!

DC Court Strikes Down Handgun Ban!!

Filed under: RKBA, Shooting, self defense — Dagny Gromer @ 7:39 am

This is very huge and wonderful. A Federal Appeals court used the 2nd amendment to strike down a Washington DC gun ban saying that the 2nd Amendment is not limited to organized militia!!

Post this info to every gun blog and web site!

Night Shooting

Filed under: Competitive Shooting, IDPA, Shooting — Dagny Gromer @ 12:33 pm

We’re going to set up the March IDPA match at YRL late this afternoon (Friday). Our range has no lights, nor electricity, nor running water (this is rural AZ) but we do have porta-potties. In addition to getting some low light practice we’re going to figure out how to do a night IDPA match at this range. Next month we’d like to do a small night match of 4 stages or so on the Saturday night before the regular IDPA match on Sunday 4/8.

Update:  The night shooting experiment went well. The only issues I saw were:

1) using flashlight to make sure weapons are cleared.

2) the idpa paper targets cast a large shadow, so the SO will have to be very careful to see if anyone is downrange before declaring the range safe.

Added Page Caching to ActionShootingScores

Filed under: ActionShootingScores.com, Ruby On Rails, Site News — Dagny Gromer @ 10:42 am

Today I added page caching to my Ruby on Rails application, ActionShootingScores for IDPA matches. This should significantly speed up viewing of match results. I handle expiring the cached pages this way: When a match is being edited, it goes into an unpublished state. After the match director is happy with it, he or she publishes it. On both of these state transitions the pages associated with the match get expire_page() called for them. Also if a match is deleted it’s pages get expired.

Later, I’ll add this to the other match types.
