Top Spammer Arrested

Filed under: Computers — Dagny Gromer @ 10:58 am

The AZ Republic reported that a 27 year old man was arrested an accused of being one of the top spammers. He is suspected of controlling a “bot net” that was used to spew spam to people’s email inboxes. A bot net is a group of windows pc’s that have been infected with malware which allows the bot net controller to use these pc’s to send out large amounts of spam emails. Windows pc’s which are not protected by firewalls, anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and are not kept current on patches or updates to windows can become part of these bot nets. Such machines which are connected to always on high speed internet connections such as a cable modem are especially vulnerable.

I, for one, am very happy they caught this guy.

If you use windows, make sure you are protected. Or better yet, use an Apple Mac or run a Linux OS :-)

Multiculturalism is death

Filed under: Political — Dagny Gromer @ 8:35 am

warning, this is very politically incorrect :-)

William Lind writes in Death by Multiculturalism (note to link followers – This is an archive of Mr Lind’s writings with all the articles on a single web page. You may need to search the page for this article) about the 6 six foreign-born Muslims accused of planning a shooting attack on the U.S. military base at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. He points out that US intervention in the Balkans in the 1990’s created 2 Muslim states that are homes for Fourth Generation Islamic forces – 4 of the the Ft. Dix 6 are from this region.

The most interesting part of the article is his discussion of how multiculturalism is really cultural Marxism which “works tirelessly for the destruction of Western, Christian culture, which it seeks to wipe off the earth and out of history. Since Islam has the same objective, the two work in alliance, despite the fact that they are philosophical opposites.”

If you want to read a reasoned, non-mainstream understanding of what’s happening in Iraq and Afghanistan, I highly recommend Mr. Lind’s archive.

“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” The first shots in this revolution have been fired by Ron Paul. Ron Paul offers a chance to share a real sense of our country as glorious and honorable, a joyful, fearless land of opportunity and of peace.
A wonderful article on Ron Paul. Must Read!

Also see this article on the same subject by Justin Raimondo.

Some new programming books …

Filed under: Computers, Ruby On Rails, programming — Dagny Gromer @ 3:49 pm

I’m reading: “Ajax on Rails” by Scott Raymond (O’Reilly) and “Prototype and script.aculo.us” by Christophe Porteneuve (Pragmatic Programmers).  These are very closely related  – Prototype and script.aculo.us are the ajax and html dom manipulation libraries that Ruby on Rails uses.

So far I have spent more time with Ajax on Rails. It’s very well written and I have learned much.  Prototype and script.aculo.us is a beta book – it’s a work in progress. I’ve bought beta books from Pragmatic Programmers before, they notify you when there is an update and you just download a new pdf file.

Filed under: life — Dagny Gromer @ 8:13 am

The always interesting Dave Pollard has a post on good advice. He asked readers to contribute advice they received that was good. Here is my contribution:

Most of the people you will meet in business don’t know what they are doing.

– told to me my my father when I graduated from college. In the ensuing 30 years, I have found Dad to be correct.
