A cat that lives at a nursing home seems to be able to sense when a resident’s death is near. That a cat can do this does not surprise me at all. Animals that share our lives and homes are tuned into us to a great degree. My dogs can sense when I first think to take them for a walk – I’m sure they are picking up on subtle body language cues.

How many small arms rounds does it take to kill an Iraqi or Afghan insurgent?
Question: How many small arms rounds does it take to kill an Iraqi or Afghan insurgent?
Answer: 250,000 Yes, that 1/4 million.
This article shows how much ammo (billions of rounds, with a B) the US millitary has bought to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since this has exceeded the capacity of the American ammo makers, some ammo is being bought from Israel. Are we using Israeli ammo to kill Muslims? That would be too politically incorrect. The Israeli ammo is used for training.

Attended July 3-Gun Match
We shot the July 3-Gun match at the Yavapai Recreation League 7/15. We have not shot USPSA in quite a while. I shot just pistol (single stack). Gary shot pistol, shotgun, and rifle. Our friend Gwendolyn came up from Phoenix to join us. She shot all 3 guns. Guess I wimped out …
I took some photos which I’ll post in the next few days.
Here are a few photos
Monsoon Storm and our “tuning fork”
Last night we got our first monsoon (summer thunderstorm season with winds from the south, for those who have not been in AZ in the summertime) storm that delivered more than a drop or two of rain. We enjoyed seeing water falling from the sky – what a concept. The electricity went on and off a few times, our cable tv and internet were down for about an hour. Normal monsoon stuff.
What was a bit amusing was our little rat terrier dog Suzie, who really hates thunderstorms. She becomes a “tuning fork”, vibrating and trying to crawl between Gary and the couch. We try not to comfort her too much, less the affection will train her to act fearfully. She has figured out that hated thunder is often preceded by a lightning flash, so she starts vibrating when she sees lightning.
I really regret having named her “Suzie Lightning” … bad, bad choice. It’s been suggested that I change it to “Suzie Sausage” since she is sort of sausage shaped. I think I’ll stay with her original name.
