There’s a pair of woodpeckers, ladder backed woodpeckers I think, that frequently visit. They make quite a bit of noise when they pound on the wood pole seeking insects to eat. The red ‘hat’ on its head identifies this one as a male.

We have one of these that come by once in a while to steal peanuts I leave out for the jays in the bird feeder. He’s quite the bully actually. But then I suspect he’s pretty hard headed to boot.

Gee — I wouldn’t mind having a few of these guys in our neighborhood. We are overrun with acorn woodpeckers, tho.

Very nice woodpecker photo. All we get here are downy woodpeckers and the blue jays rule over them.
