Uncle Bob Passed Away

We had a death in the family. My husband’s uncle Bob passed away this week. My mother-in-law was one of eight siblings, giving Gary a lot of uncles and aunts. Uncle Bob was one of my favorites. I’ll miss him.

When Gary and I got married at the Prescott Court House by a judge, we wanted a really small and simple wedding. Gary’s mom invited all her brothers, sisters, and their spouses. Not so small anymore. Uncle Bob noticed that I did not have any flowers, so he ran out and bought me some. This has been the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Uncle Bob.

Link to obituary in the Verde News.

Here’s a photo I took of him in February 2008.

Oldest Sculpture Found, and it’s Porno

From Yahoo news:

A sexually suggestive Venus figurine with oversized breasts and thighs dates back at least 35,000 years and shows ancient humans had sex on their minds, researchers said Wednesday.

The 60-millimetre-long figurine may be the oldest piece of its kind yet discovered and suggests Palaeolithic art was far more complex than many had thought, Nicholas Conard of Tubingen University in Germany wrote in the journal Nature.

And my young friends who grew up with the internet though their generation invented porn.

Kirkland Steak House Closing??

Update 1/25/2009: I’m relieved. The Kirkland Steak House is open though it is for sale. Thanks for the information, commenters. Blogs are a great multiway conversation.

GrannyJ reports that the iconic Kirkland Steak House is for sale (scroll to bottom of post). I sure hope it stays open. If anyone has info, please share.

I have some personal memories there. When Gary and I got married we had a dinner for our guests after the wedding. And on another occasion I made him a surprise party for his 50th birthday. He was very surprised when we walked in and a group of friends shouted “Happy birthday Gary!”. It is sad news the Kirkland Steak House might be closing.
