Harley-Davidson Over the Hill?

Filed under: Misc. — Dagny Gromer @ 9:03 am

There’s an article on MSN Money asking Is Harley-Davidson over the hill? Points raised:

Harley is seen as a bike for baby boomers, who are reaching the age where motorcycle riding is no longer feasible. Younger riders want street bikes, not grandpa’s Harley.

Prices of $20+ are hard for people to manage in the poor ecomony for something that they want but not need.

On the positive side, Harley is successfully marketing to women riders, who are a growing part of the motorcycle riding population.

Gary has a Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide. He enjoys riding it. I have an older Honda Shadow which I bought used. I think I rode it 3 times last year. Here’s an HDR photo I took of Gary’s bike last year.

Graffiti Bike

I saw this bike decorated with graffiti in Prescott on Saturday. It was parked in the new Panda Express parking lot. I’ve seen some cars “decorated” strangely – or creatively – depending on one’s perspective. But this is the first graffiti bike I’ve seen.

Christmas Tree

Wishing all who visit here a Merry Christmas!

Has anyone else noticed that Merry Christmas is once again being said in stores and other places, and the generic Happy Holidays seems on its way out? A welcome return to tradition, IMHO.

Update Christmas Day: No snow :-( but it’s raining and rained during the night. We’re a few degrees too this year for a white Christmas. There’s some snow on the mountains.

New Cell Phone, LG enV2

I got a new cell phone yesterday, a LG enV2 from Verizon. I wanted an iPhone. But we use Verizon because they have good coverage while out in the “boonies”. My husband’s railroad job takes him to the boonies often. A working phone is far better than a fancy handset with no signal. We have 2 lines that use the same pool of air time. So, no iPhone for me.

This phone has a camera, removable micro sd card (bought extra, of course), it opens up and has a keyboard. And it even places and receives phone calls.

Update 27 June 2008:

I like this phone. When I was looking at phones, I wanted a simple phone that had a camera. Gary liked the enV series phones (he has an older one) and he wanted me to get one too. On his phone, the buttons on the outside are hard to read. On mine, they are larger. Many of us who are over 50 (or perhaps over 40) have difficulty seeing the controls on the very small phones.

I’m not a heavy cell phone user, I don’t get email on it or use it to access the web. I have a MacBook Pro for that. I have used the camera in the phone a few times. It’s nice to have a real, though small, keyboard for entering names and numbers. I do know how to text, BTW, but I find it less appealing than email or voice mail.
