Anti-Muslim sentiment surfaces in attacks on Obama – Yahoo! News via kwout

This article says that a photo of Democratic Presidential Candidate Obama wearing African clothing and a turban indicates that we in this country are anti-Muslim. Couldn’t be, could it?

Was it Lutherans who crashed hijacked planes into buildings in this country a few years back? No.  Do Buddhists cut off the heads of people they consider infidels?  If so, I missed the video. Did the Catholic Pope issue a death sentence upon an author of a book he disagreed with? Not in the last thousand years. After millions of Jews were murdered by Nazis in the 1930’s and 1940’s, did anyone hear of a Jew going into a BMW or Mercedes dealership and blow himself up? No.

It is Muslims who commit these atrocities. Are most Muslims into this? No, but I don’t hear an outcry condemning these acts from that community when extremists commit crimes in the name of their religion.

So are Americans anti-Muslim? Wonder why?

Ruger LCP

Michael Bane has a short video on Ruger’s new LCP pocket pistol. Not too much in the video, but worth watching if you like tiny, concealable weapons. I sure do 🙂 In fact, I’m coming to the belief that this class of weapon is more important than standard service pistols. Because of my size and the nature of women’s clothing I can’t conceal a Glock 23, full or commander size 1911, or S&W 686 real well unless I wear a sweatshirt. This is OK on the weekends during the winter, but hardly consistent with the “carry always” philosophy. BTW Gary has no trouble concealing full size handguns. Open carry is fine when hiking out in the boonies but not my thing for daily life.

More on the LCP: Much of it (well, the metal parts anyway) is made at the Ruger plant in Prescott, AZ. We are friends with one of the design engineers who worked on the LCP – he’s a bright boy and a dedicated shooter.  I’ve not had a chance to try one of these yet. Gary, I, and good friend G.H. (who has the same concealment issues I do) have each preordered a LCP. I’ll write more after I’ve shot it.

Spring has sprung in the Phoenix area and the africanized killer bees are becoming active, I guess. Remember when honey bees were regarded as a good species? Hope those folks recover OK.

Some folks are renaming John McCain to “Juan” to highlight his belief that there is no such thing as an illegal alien.  I’ll pass. It’s just not fair to tar people named Juan with the sleaze that is John McCain.

Frozen Trees, Snow, Rain and Inflection Points

A couple of photos taken 21 Feb on Gurley St. in Prescott, AZ. These were taken across the street from the Washington Traditional School. What caught my eye was the frozen trees.

And here is a close up of the trees.

We’ve had quite a bit of rain and snow here this winter. As I recall, the forecast was for a dry, warm winter. Not only was it wet, it was cold too. So the forecast was wrong – it’s OK to make a mistake, I have been known to make one every now and again. I find it interesting that our mainstream media weather people add “but we are still in a draught” after they report precipitation. It had been a reflexive utterance just like a waiter in a Mexican restaurant saying “these plates are hot“. I have not heard the draught one recently. As for the hot plates, yes, that is a physical reality.

Perhaps the multiyear draught is ending, perhaps not. If it is, then we are at an inflection point where a major trend is changing. These inflection or change points are very hard to identify when they are happening. In hindsight, they are obvious.  I believe that our society is at several inflection points now. Who would have thought that that a black man with Muslim name would be a serious contender for president of the US? Who knew that major banks had made so many bad loans?
