Update 12/31/2008: Our LCP’s have been returned. 8 days, including Christmas Day. Very good turn around, Ruger! Each gun came back with the promised extra magazine. Plus, each came back with a Ruger LCP hat (photo below). So this completes out LCP recall story.

Update 12/17/2008: We received our 3 shipping boxes from Ruger to return our LCP’s for the recall. I will post here when we get them back so others can see how long the process takes. I hear Ruger will give a free magazine for each LCP that goes through the recall.
Some Ruger LCP pistols are being recalled. Seems they can discharge (fire a bullet) if dropped in a certain way onto a hard surface. Opps, BANG – Only kidding. Here’s a link to the Ruger page which tells how to determine if your LCP is being recalled. Michael Bane’s blog has some discussion on this issue.
We’ll check our LCP’s this weekend, though I think ours have the latest hammer assembly.

I have an LCP. I have confidence in it. Ruger customer service is exemplary. When I asked for the updated hold-back, they sent it to me at no charge. The LCP was the first gun I ever worked on, but I was able to make the change without much difficulty even though it is taken apart considerably to make the exchange.
The fact that they initiated a recall when it is not clear that they were required to do so increases my admiration for the company.

HAC – We like our LCP’s too. Recalls happen, I have a very early Glock 19 that was recalled once. The companies err on the side of caution, which is surely warranted when it comes to firearms.

My new LCP only fired one shot and trigger bar fell off. I could never trust it as protection like I could never trust a wife caught cheating. I will sent it back after I think they have their act together.

These reports on some people having LCP “trigger malfunctions” are news to me…. Sounds like BS to me, and is probably an employee from Kel Tec talking smack…. My LCP has worked absolutely flawlessly, and I would much rather have it to depend on than the Kel Tec P3AT…. I had the Kel Tec 380 for a few years, and on a recent trip the range it jammed repeatedly…. After that, I sold it and got the Ruger LCP… I feel much more confident that the Ruger will work well if and when it is ever needed… I hope that day never comes, but I’ll take a Ruger over a Kel Tec any day !

Very dissappointed with Rugers LCP recall response and turnaround time. Sent my LCP to Ruger on December 30th. Still haven’t received my LCP back. Customer Service says parts are delayed and may not get it back by the end of January. Customer service couldn’t give me a time when it would be done. To those folks who have a LCP to be upgraded/recalled …. call 1st before releasing your pistol to get a written commitment. I’m not happy with Ruger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the exact same experience as Tom Berken. Sent my LCP to Ruger on Dec.31, 2008 and have not received it back. If this company has a defective product, and can’t repair it within reason, they should send a new one to the customers.

When this recall was first instituted Ruger stated that they would issue return packaging to owners on a first-come first-served basis. At the same time they stated to me that I would receive the box when they had repair parts in stock. My LCP has been in their possession since Jan 7th. They now state that there are no parts available, that a new supplier was sourced and that they can’t quote a return date. This is BS – plain and simple.

i bought two lcp’s and have shot them many many many rounds. neither has had the slightest indication of any problems. both shoot great, carry great, and are nice to look at unlike the kel tek piece of tuperware crap! ruger always has been and will (i am sure) continue to be top of the line safety cautious and very responsive when communicated with.

i bought 4 of these for resale when they were hard to locate. but after shooting the lcp, there is no way i would get rid of any of them. i have shot mine several thousand rounds now since i got it, and have had no malfunctions. i agree with the post above about kel tek starting this ugly rumor. they have done everything they could to stop the sale of the lcp cuz it hurts them tremendously. whos gonna buy one of their plastic ugly guns when they can have a great ruger! ruger is “top notch” and always has been.
