Update 1/25/2009: I’m relieved. The Kirkland Steak House is open though it is for sale. Thanks for the information, commenters. Blogs are a great multiway conversation.
GrannyJ reports that the iconic Kirkland Steak House is for sale (scroll to bottom of post). I sure hope it stays open. If anyone has info, please share.
I have some personal memories there. When Gary and I got married we had a dinner for our guests after the wedding. And on another occasion I made him a surprise party for his 50th birthday. He was very surprised when we walked in and a group of friends shouted “Happy birthday Gary!”. It is sad news the Kirkland Steak House might be closing.

So I might be accused of being a rumor-monger. A Skull Valley friend of Catalyst says not to worry, that the bar/restaurant has been for sale forever. However, now would obviously be a good time to give them a little business encouragement.

Rumors?1? GrannyJ?!? I don’t believe that.
I’m happy to hear that the Kirkland Steak House is still open. Thanks.

The Kirkland Steakhouse, what can a person say? It’s just like having a Whiskey Row in Skull Valley. Not to worry though, that Historic building has always been for sale! He is asking way too much for it, and its potential for remodeling is limited due to historic standing.
What a great place to meet out of town guests.

I was just at the Kirkland steakhouse last Thursday (February 26,2009). I met and had a nice conversation with Herb and Barb (the owners). It is still open for business, but Herb mentions out loud that the place is for sale (and has been for sale for some time as noted elsewhere). The bar is currently open Tuesday-Sunday (and serves a limited menu of grill specials) but the restaurant side is only serving dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. I drove by the Saturday prior and the restaurant and bar were jammed…nice to see.
They discontinued live music a while back due to drinking/driving liability issues and that hurt the trade a bit. I am not sure where that stands at the moment.
It would be a shame if the building was remodelled…it is a piece of history as it is, more or less untouched since the late 20’s after the original building burned.
