This is a convex traffic mirror near Las Fuentes in Prescott, Az. That’s my reflection, behind me is the Las Fuentes retirement center nicely distorted by the curve of the mirror.

DVR with High Definition TV (HDMI) Closed Captions

We recently got a flat panel LCD high definition television. We get our tv from CableOne. We have a DVR, which we love. In fact, neither of us can watch tv without this anymore. In order to get a high definition picture, we had to get a HDMI cable. Once installed, the picture was great but we lost our closed captions.

To enable closed captions with a Motorola DCH6416 DVR using a HDMI connection to a high definition tv follow these steps:

1. Using the DVR remote (I could not get this to work with the buttons on the front of the DVR, thought the DVR docs say it is possible), turn the DVR. Then immediately press the Menu button on the DVR remote.
2. This will bring up the user settings menu. Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate this menu, and the right arrow to select an item.
