Hummingbird on Guard 1, originally uploaded by dagnyg.
I call this hummingbird the guardian. He stays on this branch and attacks any other than comes near the feeders.
Shot with Nikon D80, Nikkor 80-400mm, SB 900 on camera hotshoe.

I have exactly the same situation here. A large split-tailed hummingbird often guards our two feeders and tries to chase away any other birds.
There are some yellow-breasted birds (not hummingbirds) that pay little attention to him and drink anyway. It makes the guard bird furious but the get between the wall and the feeder and ignore him.
Obviously, I don’t know much about bird types or I’d have the exact nomenclature for them. But you can see him at about 12 seconds in on this video: http://www.vimeo.com/19900008
