Today our internet connection from CableOne failed around 7:30 am. Dead. We have cable TV from this company too and that was functioning, so the problem was not a cable cut by a backhoe nor a utility pole knocked down by a car wreck. I called and reported it, I was online when it failed. It finally came back up at 9 pm or so. Very poor time to repair. Engineers use 3 metrics to evaluate reliability: mean time between failure, mean time to repair, and mean cost to repair. (mean = average, btw)
This is the first really bad outage we’ve had in a long time. There have been more than a few short term outages, but this has been the first in a while where we were really disconnected long enough to be a problem. We survived quite well offline for 13 plus hours.
