Your shitting me right? A man who broke his oath as an officer, led his men into defeat with huge losses of life and was a slave owner and defended slavery is a great man? REALLY?
In the American civil war over 600,000 men died mostly from disease but combat deaths were high too. And for what? So one group could own human beings? I don’t think so and neither did a whole lot of other people then and now. Great man my ass, he was a traitor and worse a slave owner/defender. Just my humble opinion of course!
A man who lived by his honor and devotion to duty. He never broke his oath as an officer. He resigned to protect his state and defend the Constitution. He could never be a traitor to Virginia so he made the only decision that he could. One of the greatest Americans who ever lived. Just my humble opinion as well.
Yes. Lincoln wanted Lee to command his army to attack the south in what the government school books call the civil war. Lee turned him down. It was really the second war for American independence.
