PHOENIX — A suspected bank robber was shot and killed by a witness and another was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, according to Phoenix police.

Two masked, armed men reportedly robbed a Desert Schools Federal Credit Union near Cactus Road and Tatum Boulevard and were confronted by a witness while leaving with a garbage can full of money.

Police said that after a struggle, the witness shot one suspect, who was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
