John Michael Greer, a historian of ideas and the leader of a neo-pagan religious order, is well worth reading. I’m halfway through his current book “Dark Age America” and have read “Not the Future We Ordered” and “The Long Descent”. Agree or disagree with him (I do both), his work makes one think.
His post “The Coming of the Postliberal Era” is a puts American liberalism in a clear historical context and suggests that it is just about over.
From the very beginning, it was a movement of the educated elite. Though it spoke movingly about uplifting the downtrodden, the downtrodden themselves were permitted very little active part in it.
