Harvard Profs Pissed that Obamacare will cost them $

Gotta love this one!

For years, Harvard’s experts on health economics and policy have advised presidents and Congress on how to provide health benefits to the nation at a reasonable cost. But those remedies will now be applied to the Harvard faculty, and the professors are in an uproar.

Members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the heart of the 378-year-old university, voted overwhelmingly in November to oppose changes that would require them and thousands of other Harvard employees to pay more for health care. The university says the increases are in part a result of the Obama administration’s Affordable Care Act, which many Harvard professors championed.

This from some of the eggheads that designed Obamacare. Now they are getting hit with the costs, just like the middle class, good and hard. Socialism is not as much fun when you get handed the bill.

Can’t make this stuff up! Did you think Harvard profs were smart? Maybe too smart for their own good, as my grandmother used to say.

Obamacare Penalty for no Health Insurance

I’ve been reading debate about whether or not the penalty for not having health insurance under Obamacare is a tax or not. Folks, this is a non issue. The tax on the productive economy, you know that “thing” that creates food, shelter, transportation, energy, other products and services is what the government at all levels spends. It matters not whether the taking is called a tax or penalty. There’s no difference between a direct taking such as sales tax on a retail purchase or income tax or medicare tax or social security tax taken from your paycheck vs. money borrowed by the government selling bonds or the federal reserve printing unbacked dollars. Government spending = Tax burden.

My personal opinion on health care: It is a responsibility not a right. Since I own my body I am responsible for staying healthy by my lifestyle choices primarily, and seeking help when I am ill. If I have minor children then I am responsible for their health too.

Today we have cost problem in the health care industry. The cost basis is way too high. What will bring it down? Increased supply of health care providers and much less government regulation of this sector of the economy. The health care  industry is controlled by a group of interlocking cartels who have succeeded in maintaining monopoly profits because they have captured the government regulatory apparatus and are using it to create barriers to entry.

Yes, these are radical ideas. When conventional remedies continually provide one failure after another, we can conclude that they are incorrect. Time for radical thinking.

Support for Obama on healthcare slips: poll

I just read Support for Obama on healthcare slips: poll and I see that folks are beginning to realize that government run health care, which I’ll call FedHealth, is a bad deal for most of us. Those who want something for nothing, i.e. someone else to pay for their medical needs, are in favor as are those who relish the federal government getting even bigger and more powerful. I am not in either group!

From the linked article:

Public support for President Barack Obama‘s handling of healthcare reform, the pillar of his legislative agenda, has fallen below 50 percent for the first time, a Washington Post-ABC News poll released on Monday said.

Republicans and some fiscally conservative Democrats argue the plan, with an estimated cost of more than $1 trillion, could hurt small businesses, add to budget deficits and reduce the quality of medical care for many Americans.

Those concerns may be having an impact on the public, according to the poll, which showed 49 percent of respondents approving of Obama’s stand on the issue compared to 57 percent in April.

Obama and the Democrats are trying to rush this through so people don’t have a chance to think about it.

Whenever I see an Obama bumper sticker on a car, I wonder if the person is happy with what he or she got. As for me, I’d like to tell the dissatisfied Obama voter “I warned you, fool!”.

A couple of articles about this dissatisfaction:  Polls find rising concern with Obama on key issues and Rural Dems have beef with Obama. Some highlights:

  • “They don’t get rural America,” said Rep. Dennis Cardoza, a Democrat who represents California’s agriculture-rich Central Valley. “They form their views of the world in large cities.”
  • In rural America, especially, the looming closures pose a dire threat. Car dealers are not only an economic linchpin of many county-seat towns but also offer support for institutions and a way of life that can’t be easily replaced.
  • Obama, who took office in January, remains popular with Americans, although his overall job approval rating slipped to 56 percent, down 5 points from April, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
  • But 58 percent of respondents said Obama and Congress should focus on keeping the budget deficit down, even if takes longer for the economy to recover. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the federal deficit could top $1.8 trillion this fiscal year — by far a record.
  • The poll also found that Americans were alarmed by the amount of money doled out to boost the economy and a majority thought the government should focus instead on reducing the federal deficit.

There was no mention in the articles about Obama grandiose plans to nationalize the health care industry.

I had also read earlier (sorry, no link) that the hard leftists were angry with Obama for no ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, not opening up the military to gays, and bailing out the wall street capitalists.
