inLooks like there are problems in Apple iOS land. The release iOS 8.0.1 to fix bugs in 8.0, and 8.0.1 was pulled when it caused major problems like these:
reports began flooding in that iOS 8.0.1 was breaking cellular reception and other features like Touch ID. Apple eventually removed the faulty update, but not before an untold number of users were able to install it. http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/24/6839235/apple-ios-8-0-1-released
Yes, it did say “breaking cellular reception”. And one of the main reasons I have a cell phone is cellular reception, i.e. making and receiving phone calls.
I was thinking of updating my phone today, thankfully I saw this article before I did so. Maybe I’ll update some time in October when Apple gets it right.

iPhone users beware! I updated to iOS 7.1.1 and when I checked my privacy settings, I saw that Location Services was on. I always keep this off, except when I am using Google maps (rarely). Bad enough that the NSA is spying on our location, I don’t need Apple nor Google nor any other corporation doing the same. Just what I need, more ads, more junk email, etc.
Come on Apple, I bought an expensive phone from you. Don’t turn off a privacy setting – I don’t want to share my location with anyone, least of all advertisers and marketers.

I got an email from Best buy that the iPhone I reserved had arrived in the store. Quite the surprise, I was not expecting to see it for a few weeks. So to Best Buy Gary and I went after my work. Gary had to be present as the Verizon account we share is in his name. I am now the owner of an iPhone, which I don’t know how to use yet. My last phone was an Android. On Friday when I have time I’ll learn to use it and install the apps I need.
The man at Best Buy got my email account connected to the new phone so I have enough to get started with.
I got the space gray color, at the store they said the gold color was very rare and they have seen only 1 of these.

It’s time to replace my phone, a Motorola Droid. I decided to try an iPhone this time. Android is OK, but just OK. To me it feels like a Windows XP system – clunky though functional. Since I am really happy with my Macintosh computers and have had no trouble with my 4 year old iPod touch, so I decided to try Apple’s phone. I went to a Verizon store (our carrier) and they want $200 . Then today I saw an ad for Best Buy offering the same phone for $99. Both have the same 2 year Verizon contract. Neither has the phone in stock. So I placed an order at Best Buy, they will call me when the phone is available, time frame unknown. OK, my old phone still works.
The Prescott Best Buy was pretty busy. In front of me was a family where the 70-something grandfather was buying his first smart phone. His grandson was showing him how to use it. I commented to the middle generation that I thought it was great that their dad was open to learning to use new technology. We tried for years to get my mom to use email, but she never did.
