Support for Obama on healthcare slips: poll

I just read Support for Obama on healthcare slips: poll and I see that folks are beginning to realize that government run health care, which I’ll call FedHealth, is a bad deal for most of us. Those who want something for nothing, i.e. someone else to pay for their medical needs, are in favor as are those who relish the federal government getting even bigger and more powerful. I am not in either group!

From the linked article:

Public support for President Barack Obama‘s handling of healthcare reform, the pillar of his legislative agenda, has fallen below 50 percent for the first time, a Washington Post-ABC News poll released on Monday said.

Republicans and some fiscally conservative Democrats argue the plan, with an estimated cost of more than $1 trillion, could hurt small businesses, add to budget deficits and reduce the quality of medical care for many Americans.

Those concerns may be having an impact on the public, according to the poll, which showed 49 percent of respondents approving of Obama’s stand on the issue compared to 57 percent in April.

Obama and the Democrats are trying to rush this through so people don’t have a chance to think about it.

Whenever I see an Obama bumper sticker on a car, I wonder if the person is happy with what he or she got. As for me, I’d like to tell the dissatisfied Obama voter “I warned you, fool!”.

A couple of articles about this dissatisfaction:  Polls find rising concern with Obama on key issues and Rural Dems have beef with Obama. Some highlights:

  • “They don’t get rural America,” said Rep. Dennis Cardoza, a Democrat who represents California’s agriculture-rich Central Valley. “They form their views of the world in large cities.”
  • In rural America, especially, the looming closures pose a dire threat. Car dealers are not only an economic linchpin of many county-seat towns but also offer support for institutions and a way of life that can’t be easily replaced.
  • Obama, who took office in January, remains popular with Americans, although his overall job approval rating slipped to 56 percent, down 5 points from April, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
  • But 58 percent of respondents said Obama and Congress should focus on keeping the budget deficit down, even if takes longer for the economy to recover. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the federal deficit could top $1.8 trillion this fiscal year — by far a record.
  • The poll also found that Americans were alarmed by the amount of money doled out to boost the economy and a majority thought the government should focus instead on reducing the federal deficit.

There was no mention in the articles about Obama grandiose plans to nationalize the health care industry.

I had also read earlier (sorry, no link) that the hard leftists were angry with Obama for no ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, not opening up the military to gays, and bailing out the wall street capitalists.

Obama + Socialism = Return to Barbarism

In a great article – but not a simple read – economist Lew Rockwell explains Mises’s illustration of the failure of socialism and how Obama is taking the US down the path to barbarism. Worth the time to read. Following are some excerpts:

We find ourselves facing the horror of what has always been the Achilles’ Heel of the left wing: its abysmal ignorance of economic science. The ideological tendency has gone from Keynesianism to outright socialism in a matter of a few weeks.

bad policy leads to bad results that are addressed through bad policy, and so on, straight down the fast track to serfdom

Socialism crushes human rights, builds the state, impinges on the liberty of conscience, and breeds social, cultural, and economic degeneration.

Ludwig von Mises in 1920, however, added something special and new to the critique of socialism. He said that socialism in all its forms cannot accommodate any economic development beyond the hunter-gatherer stage.

No socialist has ever been able to provide an answer to Mises’s devastating point.

Mises’s illustration of the failure of socialism provides a fantastic means to discover what is right about markets and wrong about all forms of collectivized economic planning. It shows what happens when you nationalize banks and credit.

And look: it’s not as if socialism is a new idea. It was tried in the 20th century. It produced economic stagnation and despair. In its purest form, it extinguished more than one hundred million people.

Take this seriously: it is where the Obama tendency is leading us.

Gun sales soar; fear of limits is blamed via kwout

The AZ Republic had the above linked story. I had an earlier post on increased gun sales. I heard a rumor last week that a large local Prescott gun dealer did as much business in the week of the election as they did all of last year – I have no way of knowing if this is true. I do know that there’s almost no bulk imported ammunition around, certain Glock models are sold out, and AR-15’s and AK-47’s are rare.

… was that Ron Paul could have beaten Obama.

McCain and the republicans certainly deserved to loose, Bush & Co. had done anresu appallingly bad job these last 4 years. And McCain was perceived as a continuation of this.

It will likely be a bad 4 years. But keep remember that Jimmy Carter the Clown made the way for Ronald Reagan the Magnificent.

I’m going to buy another gun in the next few days. Might be my last chance to do so for a few years.
