It’s President’s Day, a combined Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthday holiday. I think they were combined because they are nearby on the calendar.
I remember just how precious a paid holiday was when I was working full time. I hope those in the workforce enjoyed this day off.
Thinking about the idea of a holiday to recognize US Presidents, I think back on the presidents of my living memory. I can think of only one who was not a failure or a disgrace. I remember JFK, and yes I recall where I was when I heard he was shot. Eisenhower was president when I was born, but I remember nothing that far back in my time other than when my brother was born and some scenes from where we lived.
And looking forward at the group from which our next pres will be drawn, I think the pattern will persist.
