I got some new photos of the Swainson’s hawks that nest near our home in Prescott. The other day I saw one of these on our porch. They are insectivores, likely it was hunting for grasshoppers or cicadas which are very numerous at this time of the year.

First good photo of a Swainson’s hawk for 2017. We have a nesting pair in Prescott, Az near the Prescott High School. This bird is atop the scoreboard of the baseball field.

Today I went to the Jay’s Bird Barn 13th anniversary event. I buy my birdseed there, and the folks are very knowledgeable about local Prescott birds. They had some captive raptors there today from Arizona’s Raptor Experience.

The Swainsons hawk pair that nest near our house in Prescott Az have 2 healthy looking fat chicks in their nest.
Not the greatest photo, it’s hard to see and shoot the nest which is quite high in the tree.
